Even if you’re a NYC fashionista, you may not have known about the other major Fashion Week, aside from the bi-annual Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. No, at the tail end of summer, NYC plays host to a different Fashion Week – one for men. And it’s everything you’d expect it to be. High-end men’s fashions and accessories take a strut down the catwalk and give us a peek into what’s hot for next season.
Here’s some of our favorites from the show:
Tunics
This fall, men’s tunics are coming back into style in a big way. Most feature strong straight lines and can work both as a shirt (paired with a looser fitting sports jacket) or as a longer version of a pullover or light jacket. The materials are light and airy, and come in mostly muted fabrics to pair easily with a range of outfits for both daytime and evening wear.
Materials that Shine
Forget boring black and grays, this year pants and suit jackets are stepping up to give off more of a shine. Satin and other fabrics that produce a nice sheen are being used in lieu of more basic, matte fabrics. This is also extending to outerwear and tops, with the same design aesthetic being applied to sweaters, shirts, and casual jackets.
Statement Belts
Usually, mens belts are built to be more utilitarian rather than to make a statement. But this year, menswear designers weren’t shying away from making statement belts and had everything from cinch waist belts to built-in belts on jackets gracing the runway.
Military Finds
From bomber jackets to wide-hemmed sailor pants, there was a strong throwback to military styles on the runway this year. Think muted brown, gray, and olive green colors on long military-style jackets, pullovers, shorts, and cargo pants.
