It’s once again Fashion Week in New York City. And what all trendsetters and fashionistas know is that the fashions only provide part of the entertainment. NYFW is just as much about hair, makeup, and accessory trends as it is about clothing, and we’re always keeping an eye out for the latest statements. Here’s our favorite fashion week hair trends straight from the runway.
Side Ponytails
Ponytails are still in, and while last Spring and Summer saw low ponytails and using fun, bold elastic band accessories, this season makes a stronger statement by bringing back the side ponytail. Unlike side ponytails of previous years (think the 80s), these Fall ponytails are still low and understated, and hang loosely over one shoulder.
Side Parts
Forget parts down the middle; side parts are back in a big way. For longer hair, parting on the side and swooping hair low over one side of the face is a growing trend on the runway. Also, this look is being used on both long and short hair, as well as wavy and straight ‘dos. It’s super versatile and even adds a bit of volume to most styles.
Casual Updos
We’re also noticing a lot of casual twists on more formal updos this year. For instance, a messy French twist paired with a headband or a loose braid pinned up to create a more formal look. Many runway looks are finding fun ways to riff off of traditional updos by adding fun accessories or by creating messier versions of sleek looks.
