We’re always hearing tips of how to keep your skin or your physique looking younger, but according to a new story from the Huffington Post, there are steps you can take to keep your hair healthy and looking younger too.
We recently wrote about the changes that happen to your hair as you age, and those included hair becoming thinner and more brittle. These three tips can help you ward off those symptoms of aging, and keep your hair looking and feeling healthier for longer.
1. Avoid UV Rays
UV rays from the sun aren’t just terrible for your skin. They can actually wreak havoc on your hair, too. More specifically, UV rays can damage the proteins in hair. This weakens the hair and can cause strands to break more easily than they should.
To avoid this, wear a hat or scarf if you plan to be outside and in direct sunlight for an extended period of time.
2. Improve Your Diet
Diet plays a huge role in overall health, and the role it plays in hair health can’t be overlooked. Vitamins A and C, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and protein are all important to keep your hair both strong and shiny. What this translates into is eating lots of green, leafy vegetables, nuts, fish, and citrus fruits.
3. Cut Down on Washing
Many people wash their hair every day, which can be a mistake since washing strips the hair of essential oils and can dry hair our very quickly. Instead, try switching your hair washing schedule to every other day. If the thought of not washing your hair every day is unbearable, keep hair product use to a minimum. Styling serums, hair spray, and other styling products can also dry hair out and leave it brittle.
